Leukemia Treatment

Leukemia is a cancer of the blood, specifically the white blood cells. This occurs when the blood is produced and functioning abnormally which can also disrupt the proper function of other organs. To treat the disease, the abnormal cells must be destroyed then replaced with healthier cells. This is where stem cells come in place.

The treatment is simple, the patient is first placed through chemotherapy and radiation to get rid of all the abnormal cells. Then, the patient receives matching, donated bone marrow filled with stem cells that will enter the patient's own bone marrow to produce healthy cells. (1)

The Skin Cell Gun

Developed by Jörg C. Gerlach, this gun revolutionizes burn treatment. Unlike traditional treatment for burns, this device utilizes stem cells from the burn patient, places it into a liquid-like solution and sprays it onto the burned area. To read more about the inventor or the device: click here.

Umbilical Cord

It is nothing new that umbilical cords are a rich source of stem cells that have a vast and seemingly unlimited ability to become any specialized cell in the human body. That is why many have turned toward storing the precious blood. Not only does it contain valuable stem cells but it is also capable of treating up to 80 diseases.
